RESUMO

The objective of this study was to evaluate the ß-glucosidase activity in the non-conventional yeasts under cellulose, glucose and sucrose substrates. The participation of the enzyme ß-glucosidase and its contribution to the enzymatic degradation of tannins is known. Within the classification of tannins are ellagitannins, molecules of gallic acid and ellagic acid, which are considered as nutraceutical compounds due to the properties that they present and that they can be used in the design of food and new drugs, synthesis of materials with antimicrobial capacity. The extracellular ß-glucosidase activity was mainly presented in the Candida and Pichia strains, being the glucose and sucrose media the most capable for inducing the activity that showed maximum values with P. pastoris in glucose (0.1682±0.00 µmol/min mg protein), and C. utilis in cellulose (0.1129±0.1349 µmol/min mg of protein), and sucrose (0.0657±0.0214 µmol/min mg protein). Additionally, I. terricola and P. kluyvery stood out in a qualitative cellulose degradation approach measured by Congo red method (9.60±0.04 mm and 9.20±0.05 mm respectively). These indicate that P. pastoris and C. utilis have potential as ß-glucosidase producers, especially when growing under complex carbon sources for biomass conversion, new biofuels production and polyphenol degradation with more manageable bioreactor process.

The relationship between psychological variables and sports injuries is a proven fact in the scientific community. Given its great relevance today, it seems necessary to expand knowledge by considering other less studied variables such as perfectionism or catastrophic thinking, or in samples such as those of triathletes. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between the triathlete's history of injuries and levels of perfectionism, catastrophic thinking, and vulnerability to anxiety. A sample of 99 triathletes (50 boys and 49 girls), with a mean age of 25.87±7.52 years, was used. For the evaluation of the study variables, an ad hoc questionnaire was used for sociodemographic variables and history of injuries, the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS), the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (ECD), and the Anxiety Sensitivity Scale ( ASI-3). The results indicate that the vulnerability to social anxiety in the triathlete is the result of the combination of the appearance of a serious injury, the existence of recurrent worries and external influences, the magnification of catastrophic thoughts, that it occurs at ayounger age, and that there has been a very high injury history. RESUMO

Pomegranate (Punica granatum) contains secondary metabolites with antioxidant and bactericide activity; however, the study of the peel in the endemic varieties of Mexico has not been deepened. The polyphenols extraction of peel pomegranate endemic to the state of Michoacan, Mexico could be used in the formlulation of healthy food due contains antioxidant compounds or could be used like drugs due contains antibactericide compunds. In this work 3 varieties of pomegranate were analyzed; Wonderful, Apaseo and Tecozautla harvested in 2017 and 2018, carrying out a physicochemical characterization to establish the ripening, application of an experimental design of response surface for drying the peel and extracting polyphenols using two solvents (acetone and ethanol) by the Soxhlet method. As a result, the pomegranates were in the correct ripening, in the drying an optimal point of operation was found without affecting the metabolites (36 h at 55 °C) and in the extraction, the bactericide and antioxidant activity was evaluated observing that in the ketone extracts the best results were obtained in the Apaseo variety being; ABTS•+ technique of 150.78 ET mM/g, DPPH• 109.8 ET mM/g and 11.82 EAG mg/g in dry extract. For the bactericide activity measured by inhibition halos in S. aureus and E. coli it was had; 20.03 mm and 14.05 mm respectively for the Apaseo variety, which is why it is convenient to extract polyphenols under this method in peel of Mexican pomegranate varieties.

RESUMO

Introduction: Despite the progress in the management of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, it is necessary to continue exploring and explaining how this situation affected the athlete population around the world to improve their circumstances and reduce the negative impact of changes in their lifestyle conditions that were necessitated due to the pandemic. The aim of this study was to analyze the moderating influence of physical activity (PA) and dietary habits on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic experience on sleep quality in elite and amateur athletes. Materials and methods: A total of 1,420 elite (40.1%) and amateur (59.9%) athletes (41% women; 59% men) from 14 different countries participated in a cross-sectional design study. Data were collected using a battery of questionnaires that identified sociodemographic data, sleep quality index, PA levels, dietary habits, and the athletes' perception of their experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Means and standard deviations were calculated for each variable. The analysis of variances and the correlation between variables were carried out with non-parametric statistics. A simple moderation effect was calculated to analyze the interaction between PA or dietary habits on the perception of the COVID-19 experience effect on sleep quality in elite and amateur athletes. Results: The PA level of elite athletes was higher than amateur athletes during COVID-19 (p < 0.001). However, the PA level of both categories of athletes was lower during COVID-19 than pre-COVID-19 (p < 0.01). In addition, amateurs had a higher diet quality than elite athletes during the pandemic (p = 0.014). The perception of the COVID-19 experience as controllable was significantly higher (p = 0.020) among elite athletes. In addition, two moderating effects had significant interactions. For amateur athletes, the PA level moderated the effect of controllable COVID-19 experience on sleep quality [F (3,777) = 3.05; p = 0.028], while for elite athletes, the same effect was moderated by dietary habits [F (3,506) = 4.47, p = 0.004]. Conclusion: Elite athletes had different lifestyle behaviors compared to amateurs during the COVID-19 lockdown. Furthermore, the relevance of maintaining high levels of PA for amateurs and good quality dietary habits by elite athletes was noted by the moderating effect that both variables had on the influence of the controllable experience during the COVID-19 pandemic on sleep quality.

RESUMO

Introduction: This study analyzed the relationships between social skills and motivation to Physical Education, students´ perceived support regarding Physical Education lessons (from parents, teachers and peers) and basic needs satisfaction in a sample of disadvantaged high school Chinese students according to Self-Determination Theory-related main principles. Physical Education classes are a great opportunity to develop not only psychomotor and physiologically, but also psychosocially in young people, and that is why this study investigates the relationship between the social skills of the students and these other main variables of the Self-Determination Theory. Methods: Two hundred and nine disadvantaged students enrolled in a camp organized by a non-governmental organization in Chengdu province (15.9 ± 0.83 years; 73.9% female and 26.1% male) completed the Chinese versions of the following Self-Determination Theory-related questionnaires (independent variables): Learning Climate Questionnaire, Activity- Feeling States Scale, Perceived Locus of Causality scale; and social skills questionnaire (dependent variable): Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters Scale. Results: The standard multiple regression model to predict social skills based on perceived support, basic needs satisfaction and motivation towards Physical Education was significant (F(11, 195)= 13.85; p < .001; R2=.44; Cohen's f2= 0.78). The social skills of the students were positively related to peer support and relatedness subscales. In contrast, introjected regulation, external regulation, and amotivation were adversely correlated with social skills. Discussion: We believe that this information would help policymakers and teachers design new policies, actions, and teaching methodologies to implement for the development of Physical Education and sport programs in China, those that will help young people throughout their life span.

RESUMO

Connecting desires for achievement, the satisfaction of basic psychological needs and the perception of fear of failure is one of the most relevant questions in the understanding of negative mental responses in youth athletes. How to act with less fear is what every athlete seeks to feel to enhance their performance actions. This paper aims to shed light on a sample of 681 members of sports teams belonging to different Spanish clubs (391 boys and 290 girls), with a mean age of 16.2 years, and a high sports dedication (75.5% > 5 years of experience; 96.3% > two training sessions/week; 90.3% > 3 hours of training/week). The collected data used self-reports based on the tenets of achievement motivation, Self-Determination Theory, and fear of failure. Those aspects linked to task involvement were positively close to Basic Psychological Needs (BPNs), while those related to ego involvement moved away from task involvement and BPNs. Fear was associated positively and significantly only with ego, and negatively with the rest of the constructs. In the standardized direct effect, positive and significant associations were observed among all constructs except between an ego-involving climate and basic psychological needs satisfaction. The association between a task-involving climate and BPNs was significant in fostering relationships among group members, as well as in improving interpersonal cohesion, empathic understanding processes, and reducing fear of failure in youth athletes.

RESUMO

Training in emotional regulation skills is one of the most important resources for the adaptation of athletes to contexts of sports pressure, especially during competitions. This study explored the effects of a mindfulness programme (Flow Meditation) on levels of impulsivity, mood and pre-competition anxiety-state in a sample of athletes (N = 41, 22.83 ± 5.62 years). Participants were randomly assigned to an intervention group (N = 21; 14 males and 7 females) which received the intervention over 10 weeks (a weekly session) and a control group (wait-list; N = 20; 13 males and 7 females). The variables under study were assessed through different questionnaires at pre- and post-test (T1-T2) in both groups. The mindfulness intervention was effective in reducing impulsivity (cognitive (t = -4.48, p ≤ 0.001, Cohen's d = 1.40), both motor (t = -4.03, p ≤ 0.001, Cohen's d = 1.20) and unplanned (t = -5.32, p ≤ 0.001, Cohen's d = 1.66)), mood (tension (t = -4.40, p ≤ 0.001, Cohen's d = 1.37), depression (t = -4.56, p ≤ 0.001, Cohen's d = 1.42), anger (t = -7.80, p ≤ 0.001, Cohen's d = 2.47), somatic anxiety (t = -5.28, p ≤ 0.001, Cohen's d = 1.65), and cognitive anxiety (t = -6.62, p ≤ 0.001, Cohen's d = 2.07) in the intervention group compared to the control group and with large to very large effect sizes. Mindfulness is a factor that enhances athletes' ability to cope with high sport pressure and the healthy management of competition (e.g., fear of failure), or with their daily life.

RESUMO

The aim of the present study is to explore the relationships between cognitive-behavioral patterns of perfectionism in the context of competitive sport and both prosociality and aggressiveness in a sample of adolescents competing in federated sports. A cross-sectional and non-randomized study was designed using a selective methodology on a sample of adolescents (N = 234) competing in federated sports. Scales to assess aggressiveness, perfectionism, prosocial behavior, and competitiveness were administrated. The results show that as age increases, prosocial behaviors increase and aggressive behaviors and competitiveness decrease, while there was no one significant perfectionist tendency. Competitiveness showed a direct relationship with aggressive (positive) and prosocial behaviors (negative). Self-oriented perfectionistic behavior showed a direct and significant relationship with prosocial behaviors, but no significant relationship with aggressive responses. As P-SP and P-OD tendencies increased, significantly smaller links were shown with prosocial behaviors, but greater links were shown with aggressive behaviors. A path (mediation) model showed a positive and predictive relationship with aggressive behaviors and a negative relationship with prosocial altruistic behaviors. The negative influence of criticism from significant figures in their environment and unrealistic expectations about their performance are relevant to difficulties in self-regulating social relationships in adolescents. Hence, it is a challenge to promote prosocial resources (as a protective value for aggressive behaviors) in the face of the early angst of young athletes, who put their maturity to the test under conditions of high pressure and demands. The present study continues to reinforce the line drawn on perfectionism and prosocial development in young people in sports contexts where young people, measured early on according to their performance, can accentuate and deepen competitive tendencies that alter their adaptive and self-regulatory capacities, as well as their psychosocial projection.

RESUMO

Abstract Ellagic acid (EA) is a phenolic biomolecule. For its biosynthesis, a source of ellagitannins is required, such as strawberries and yeasts, as precursors of the tannase and ß-glucosidase enzymes responsible for hydrolysis of ellagitannins. Two experimental mixture designs were applied., varying the yeast concentration and the number of ellagitannins in the culture medium, evaluating the enzymatic activity and ellagic acid biosynthesis. Aiming to find the optimal compositions of the non-conventional yeasts assessed in the research to biosynthesize ellagic acid feasibly and efficiently using a response surface performing the statistical analysis in the StatGraphics® program for obtaining a higher yield and optimizing the ellagic acid synthesis process, the results indicate that the strains Candida parapsilosis ITM LB33 and Debaryomyces hansenii ISA 1510 have a positive effect on the synthesis of ellagic acid, since as its concentration increases in the mixture the concentration of ellagic acid in the medium also increases; on the other hand, the addition of Candida utilis ITM LB02 causes a negative effect, resulting in the compositions of 0.516876, 0.483124 and 2.58687E-9 respectively, for a treatment under the same conditions, an optimal value of ellagic acid production would be obtained. With an approximate value of 7.33036 mg/mL

RESUMO

C. vulgaris is a unicellular microalgae, whose growth depends on the conditions in which it is found, synthesizing primary and secondary metabolites in different proportions. Therefore, we analyzed and established conditions in which it was possible to increase the yields of metabolites obtained at the flask level, which could then be scaled to the photobioreactor level. As a methodology, a screening design was applied, which evaluated three factors: type of substrate (sodium acetate or glycerol); substrate concentration; and exposure-time to red light (photoperiod: 16:8 and 8:16 light/darkness). The response variables were: cell division; biomass; substrate consumption; and antioxidant activity in intracellular metabolites (ABTS•+ and DPPH•). As a result, the sodium acetate condition of 0.001 g/L, in a photoperiod of 16 h of light, presented a doubling time (Td = 4.84 h) and a higher rate of division (σ = 0.20 h-1), having a final biomass concentration of 2.075 g/L. In addition, a higher concentration of metabolites with antioxidant activity was found in the sodium acetate (0.629 Trolox equivalents mg/L ABTS•+ and 0.630 Trolox equivalents mg/L DPPH•). For the glycerol, after the same photoperiod (16 h of light and 8 h of darkness), the doubling time (Td) was 4.63 h, with a maximum division rate of σ = 0.18 h-1 and with a biomass concentration at the end of the kinetics of 1.4 g/L. Sodium acetate under long photoperiods, therefore, is ideal for the growth of C. vulgaris, which can then be scaled to the photobioreactor level.

RESUMO

Quercetin is a flavonol ubiquitously present in fruits and vegetables that shows a potential therapeutic use in non-transmissible chronic diseases, such as cancer and diabetes. Although this phytochemical has shown promising health benefits, the molecular mechanism behind this compound is still unclear. Interestingly, quercetin displays toxic properties against phylogenetically distant organisms such as bacteria and eukaryotic cells, suggesting that its molecular target resides on a highly conserved pathway. The cytotoxicity of quercetin could be explained by energy depletion occasioned by mitochondrial respiration impairment and its concomitant pleiotropic effect. Thereby, the molecular basis of quercetin cytotoxicity could shed light on potential molecular mechanisms associated with its health benefits. Nonetheless, the evidence supporting this hypothesis is still lacking. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate whether quercetin supplementation affects mitochondrial respiration and whether this is related to quercetin cytotoxicity. Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used as a study model to assess the effect of quercetin on energetic metabolism. Herein, we provide evidence that quercetin supplementation: (1) decreased the exponential growth of S. cerevisiae in a glucose-dependent manner; (2) affected diauxic growth in a similar way to antimycin A (complex III inhibitor of electron transport chain); (3) suppressed the growth of S. cerevisiae cultures supplemented with non-fermentable carbon sources (glycerol and lactate); (4) promoted a glucose-dependent inhibition of the basal, maximal, and ATP-linked respiration; (5) diminished complex II and IV activities. Altogether, these data indicate that quercetin disturbs mitochondrial respiration between the ubiquinone pool and cytochrome c, and this phenotype is associated with its cytotoxic properties.

RESUMO

The Crabtree effect molecular regulation comprehension could help to improve ethanol production with biotechnological purposes and a better understanding of cancer etiology due to its similarity with the Warburg effect. Snf1p/Hxk2p/Mig1p pathway has been linked with the transcriptional regulation of the hexose transporters and phenotypes associated with the Crabtree effect. Nevertheless, direct evidence linking the genetic control of the hexose transporters with modulation of the Crabtree effect phenotypes by the Snf1p/Hxk2p/Mig1p pathway is still lacking. In this sense, we provide evidence that SNF1 and HXK2 genes deletion affects exponential growth, mitochondrial respiration, and transcript levels of hexose transporters in a glucose-dependent manner. The Vmax of the hexose transporters with the high transcript levels was correlated positively with the exponential growth and negatively with the mitochondrial respiration. HXT2 gene transcript levels were the most affected by the deletion of the SNF1/HXK2/MIG1 pathway. Deleting the orthologous genes SNF1 and HXK2 in Kluyveromyces marxianus (Crabtree negative yeast) has an opposite effect compared to Saccharomyces cerevisiae in growth and mitochondrial respiration. Overall, these results indicate that the SNF1/HXK2/MIG1 pathway regulates transcript levels of the hexose transporters, which shows an association with the exponential growth and mitochondrial respiration in a glucose-dependent manner.

RESUMO

The relationship between sports practice and physical and mental health became an important issue during the COVID-19 pandemic, where keeping fit and exercising was one of the best and most popular ways to cope with the confinement situation. The aim of this study was to determine the relationships between perfectionism and resilient resources with psychological well-being, differentiating sports category, gender and experience in a sample of athletes during confinement in different countries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. An incidental and cross-sectional random sampling method was designed (n = 583). The sample was analysed with three different instruments, evaluating perfectionism, resilience and psychological well-being patterns and comparing three groups with different levels of practice due to confinement (full reduction, moderate reduction and only access restrictions). Results show that both male and senior athletes were more organized, resistant to changes and focused their attention and efforts on their demands and potential. They were stimulated by obstacles that required more effort compared to U23, who reported higher concerns and lower organisational scores. Athletes who completely interrupted their sports dynamics showed higher indicators of perfectionism and performed worse in resilience and well-being. Despite this, age and the variability of the athletes' experiences proved to be relevant factors in an athlete's trajectory, and continued to represent a certain degree of balance in the face of COVID-19.

RESUMO

Six different yeasts were used to study their metabolism of glucose and xylose, and mainly their capacity to produce ethanol and xylitol. The strains used were Candida guilliermondii, Debaryomyces hansenii, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Kluyveromyces marxianus, Meyerozyma guilliermondii and Clavispora lusitaniae, four isolated from a rural mezcal fermentation facility. All of them produced ethanol when the substrate was glucose. When incubated in a medium containing xylose instead of glucose, only K. marxianus and M. guilliermondii were able to produce ethanol from xylose. On the other hand, all of them could produce some xylitol from xylose, but the most active in this regard were K. marxianus, M. guilliermondii, C. lusitaniae, and C. guilliermondii with the highest amount of xylitol produced. The capacity of all strains to take up glucose and xylose was also studied. Xylose, in different degrees, produced a redox imbalance in all yeasts. Respiration capacity was also studied with glucose or xylose, where C. guilliermondii, D. hansenii, K. marxianus and M. guilliermondii showed higher cyanide resistant respiration when grown in xylose. Neither xylose transport nor xylitol production were enhanced by an acidic environment (pH 4), which can be interpreted as the absence of a proton/sugar symporter mechanism for xylose transport, except for C. lusitaniae. The effects produced by xylose and their magnitude depend on the background of the studied yeast and the conditions in which these are studied.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Problematic use of smartphones is a challenge facing societies around the world. This phenomenon has been associated with negative socialization experiences through the impact they have on how the youth relates to their environment. This study was designed to examine parental and peer attachment, self-efficacy and prosocial reasoning as predictors of different attitudes towards online communication and problematic smartphone use. METHOD: 561 youth aged 14-20 years (Mage = 17.82; SD = 1.64; 67.7% Female) participated in an online survey. RESULTS: Results indicated that an increase in self-efficacy or prosocial reasoning is correlated with a decrease in problematic smartphone use and attitudes towards online communication aimed at avoiding reality or constructing a more comfortable parallel social reality. Attachment to parents and peers had direct and indirect effects on problematic smartphone use and attitudes toward online communication through youth personal and social adjustment. CONCLUSIONS: Attachment plays a relevant role in the symptoms reduction of smartphone addiction and attitudes to online communication in youth, through its impact on self-efficacy perceptions and prosocial reasoning.

RESUMO

Background: In an unprecedented situation of interruption of the sporting dynamics, the world of sport is going through a series of adaptations necessary to continue functioning despite coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). More than ever, athletes are facing a different challenge, a source of discomfort and uncertainty, and one that absolutely alters not only sports calendars, but also trajectories, progressions, and approaches to sports life. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the levels of psychological vulnerability that may have been generated in the athletes, because of the coexistence with dysfunctional responses during the COVID-19 experience, and which directly influence the decrease of their mental health. Methods: With a descriptive and transversal design, the study aims to identify the state of the dysfunctional psychological response of a sample of Spanish athletes (N = 284). The DASS-21 (Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale), Toronto-20 (alexithymia), and Distress Tolerance Scale questionnaires were administered to a sample of high-level Spanish athletes in Olympic programs. Results: The results suggest that the analyzed athletes indicate high levels of dysfunctional response (e.g., anxiety, stress, depression, and alexithymia) when their tolerance is low. In addition, the variables show less relational strength, when the capacity of tolerance to distress is worse and age is lower. At the same time, the greater the anxiety and uncertainty are, leading to more catastrophic and negative thoughts, the younger the athletes are. Conclusions: It is clear that both age and tolerance to distress are considered adequate protective factors for psychological vulnerability in general and for associated dysfunctional responses in particular. Moreover, the psychological resources offered by more experienced athletes are also a guarantee of protection against negativity and catastrophism.

RESUMO

Under an observational, transversal, and descriptive design, the study analyze the degree of adjustment of the perceptions of fear of failure as a mediating variable of the estimated relationship between sporting commitment and the appearance of burnout in young handball players in a competitive context. The sample included a total of 479 youth category handball players (250 boys and 229 girls) selected to compete in the Spanish Regional Championships. The age range was 16 (40.1%)-17 (59.9%) years old (M = 16.60; SD = 0.50). With regard to the years of experience variable, 85.4% stated that they have more than 5 years of experience at the federated handball player level. The Spanish version of Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory (PFAI), Inventory Athletes Burnout Revised (IBD-R), and Sport Commitment Questionnaire (SCQE) were used to assess fear of failure. The correlation patterns evidence that commitment is negative and significantly associated with emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and fear of failure and positively associated with reduced sense of personal accomplishment. In the standardized direct effect, negative and significant effects were observed between commitment and fear of failure, fear of failure with emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and on the contrary, a negative and significant effect was observed between fear of failure and reduced sense of personal accomplishment. The evaluated athletes reflect a positive psychological disposition, show pride in having been selected by their territorial teams and reflect a high desire to show their sporting qualities. Despite the emergence of cognitive-emotional processes associated with fear of failure (e.g., shame, fear of criticism), this has been observed to protect the sense of self-fulfillment through sport effort, although it also has impacts on further emotional exhaustion and loss of value of sport effort.

There isincreasing evidence of the relationship between sports practice and the transmission of values at an early age, but the specific effect of coaches and their own values on the development of these values in athletes is unknown. The objective of this study was to identify the influence of values coaches consider important on the prosocial reasoning of young athletes. A cross-sectional, multi-group explanatory design was used on a sample of 318 young athletes between the ages of 8 and 17 (MAge = 11.89; SD = 2.18), of whom 221 were male (68.8%) and their coaches (n= 38), aged between 19 and 35 (MAge = 28.4; SD = 6.62). Results reveal that coaches exercise a significant effect on the levels of prosocial reasoning of young athletes. Positive effect on prosocial reasoning of coaches' values related to respect for agreements, public image, and tolerance was demonstrated in contrast to the negative effect of coaches' values related to agreement, enjoyment, play, achievement, and victory. Discussion focuses on the usefulness of the findings for improving interactions between coaches and young athletes where joint development of competitiveness and value formation can be brought together.

Adolescents are a group at risk of developing depressive disorders, faced with a multitude of psychosocial circumstances and the re-sources available to meet vital needs. The risk of depression is associated with high avoidance of harm, low self-direction, and low persistence. The aim of the work was to explore the differences between various personality profiles on elements of depressive process (presence of distress and absence of eustress) in adolescents. The presence of depression was evaluated through the Multicultural Inventory of Depression and personality through the Temperament and Character Questionnaire in a total of 229 participants, (n = 121 males) (M age = 14.79; SD = 1.61). The exploratory cluster analyses showed the existence of 3 adolescent profiles based on temperament and character, being those adolescents with low persistence and self-transcendence, with high self-directedness, harm avoidance and rewards dependency who showed the highest indicators of depression. Specifically, significant differences were found in distress scores with adolescents in profile 3 having the highest indicators of state distress (F (224, 4) = 21.73; p < .01) and trait (F (224, 4) = 23.00; p < .01) with respect to adoles-cents in cluster 1 and cluster 2. In addition, they also had significantly low-er scores on the indicators of eustrés state (F (224, 4) = 11.59; p < .01) and trait (F (224, 4) = 12.31; p < .01). The discussion focuses on the usefulness of Moscoso and Coninger's theories as frameworks for understanding the processes of acquisition, and risk of depression in adolescents
